Sister Donna Marie Beck named Cambridge Who's Who Professional of the Year in Music Education

Pittsburgh, PA …August 6, 2007– Sister Donna Marie Beck, Chairwoman of the Music Therapy Department of Duquesne University’s Mary Pappert School of Music has been named Cambridge Who's Who Professional of the Year in music education. While inclusion in Cambridge Who's Who is an honor, only one member in each discipline is named the Cambridge Who's Who Professional of the Year. The Cambridge Who's Who selection committee hand picks these special Who's Who honorees based on accomplishments, academic achievement, leadership, and service.

Sister Donna Marie Beck taught music in catholic elementary and secondary schools for 22 years before joining Duquesne University’s Mary Pappert School of Music in 1982. Beck is an expert in music and spirituality, music therapy, and using the bonny method of guided imagery and music. The Mary Pappert School of Music provides musical education that connects the broad spectrum of historical and current practices; and in promoting the relationship between theory and practice, prepares professionals who will be the leaders in the musical culture of the 21st century.

Sister Donna Marie Beck received a Ph.D. in formative spirituality and music from Duquesne University Institute of Formation Science, a master of music education degree, and a bachelors degree in music education. She is a fellow of Association of Music and Imagery, and a member of American Music Therapy Association. She is the recipient of a Lifetime Achievement Award from American Music Therapy Association (2003), and a former AMTA executive board member and treasurer of the Mid-Atlantic Region of AMTA. Beck is a presenter of music therapy workshops and seminars both nationally and internationally.
