Oralia Preble-Niemi named Cambridge Who's Who Professional of the Year in Foreign Language and Literature in Higher Education

Chattanooga, TN…May 9, 2007–Oralia Preble-Niemi, Ph.D., Professor of Spanish and Department Head of Foreign Languages and Literature at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga has been named Cambridge Who's Who Professional of the Year in Foreign Language and Literature in Higher Education. While inclusion in Cambridge Who's Who Among Executive and Professional Women is an honor, only one member in each discipline is named the Cambridge Who's Who Registries Professional of the Year. The Cambridge Who's Who selection committee hand picks these special Who's Who honorees based on accomplishments, academic achievement, leadership and service.

Preble-Niemi, an international speaker, author and translator has an impressive background in foreign language and literature in higher education. She is responsible for development and coordinating academic programs in modern and classical languages, faculty mentoring and development, recruiting and developing curriculum. Her areas of expertise include composition and Latin American literature and culture.

Preble-Niemi received a Ph.D. in Iberoamerican Literature from The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She is a member of American Association of Teachers of Spanish and Portuguese, and Modern Language Association. Preble-Niemi has co-edited five books, and translated the works of Latin American female poets and literature, most notably Luz Mendez de la Vega's Central American works. Preble-Niemi lectures at foreign language conferences and has published numerous articles.
